i know what it's like to lose your mother
i remember how it felt when i lost my dad
i know what it's like the loss of a child...
if you know how to get over it...
please i pray tell me how
i've experienced the loss of a lover
and same so a divorce from my wife
i know how it sounds to hear the door slam
and both helped shape how i am...
i can tell you how to win the race
and how to act when you're last place
i can show you the chair on top of the world
and know where you'll land when you fall off.
i remember how it was to be a child
and found how it is to be grown
i'm not afraid to dream of success
though sometimes i've settled for much less
like most i can share a laugh
while these tears show i do cry
and as these days mount up and pass...
one day i'll know how to die.
as for you my child...
i've watched as you have grown each day
taking on your shape and form
and i've seen how well you've girded up
to embrace each and every morn
the strength you've gained
and the heart i so love
the kindness that you share
how you've taken up your cross of life
not leaving it for others to bear
you've grown so much in mind and heart
i now stand back in awe
and revel in how much you've learned
from now since first time i saw
so now with peace i can sleep
slumber in a restful mind
and know within my heart and thoughts
it's our God that's been so kind
He's blessed us both throughout our lives
our cups He's filled the same
and all was ever asked of us
was to believe and pray...
in not His but Jesus name.
for as myself He had a child
a son He loved as much as I
but as i pray life for you
God gave His son to die.
so to remember...
the paths that we've taken
and the tracks we've left
the memories in other's minds
will all be in vain, all go to waste
if we don't do this one thing in life.
so down on my knees
my head in hands
i've knelt for you to pray...
that in Christ be your life faithful and true
acknowledging the blood Jesus shed
asking forgiveness of your sins today
and know that by grace the blood of Christ
has forever washed them away.
for none is perfect, no not one
and so temporal is all that we have here
so by faith comes grace and our life with Christ
a never ending stay
and though i'll go before you
i'll see you again in Heaven
some grand and glorious day
